Walnut, Calif. – In a thrilling finish that felt straight out of a movie, the No. 3 ranked Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team defeated No. 15 ranked Los Angeles City 1-0 on Friday, November 1. With this victory, the Mounties improved their record to 13-2-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play, while Los Angeles City dropped to 10-5-4 overall and 4-3-1 in conference action.
The match was a tense back-and-forth battle, with both teams unable to capitalize on their chances until the very end. In the final minute, Joshua Figueroa delivered a pinpoint pass to Moises Prado, who leapt into the air to execute a perfectly timed header over the defender and past Los Angeles City goalkeeper Carlos Rodriguez, sending the ball into the right corner of the net for the game-winning goal.
The players erupted in celebration, sprinting off the field to embrace each other in a wave of excitement over their hard-fought victory.
Mt. SAC goalkeeper Alex Ledesma made two crucial saves to maintain the lead, while Rodriguez recorded four saves, highlighting the Mounties' offensive pressure with more shots on goal throughout the match.
With the Mounties sitting atop the South Coast Conference North and Los Angeles City right behind them, the intensity of the game was palpable, resulting in a total of seven yellow cards—three for Los Angeles City and four for Mt. SAC.
As the regular season comes to a close, the Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team will face No. 6 ranked Long Beach City College on Tuesday, November 5, at 4:00 PM in what promises to be an exciting matchup. The South Coast Conference Tournament is set to begin on Friday, November 8, with match locations and times to be announced later this week.
