(Walnut, CA) Mt. SAC Men's Soccer player Giovanny Garcia kept up his hot scoring streak with two goals in a South Coast Conference North 3-1 victory over visiting Chaffey College Friday night October 5th.

The forward has scored two goals in each of the last three Mt. SAC wins, bringing his season total to 12, which ranks him tied for third in the state.

"Gio has been good at creating unbalance in our attacking third, which has helped him score and get assists in our attack," Mt. SAC Men's Soccer coach Juan Sanchez said.

With the win, the Mounties' unbeaten streak reached five games and raised their record to 8-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference.

Just one minute into the game the Mounties took a 1-0 lead, as Marty Raygoza knocked a ball about 30 yards through air to Garcia, splitting the center backs.  That left Garcia one-on-one with the Chaffey keeper and with one cut he found an open goal and scored.

Ten minutes later in the 11th minute it was Raygoza's turn for a score. A corner kick was played to forward Gustavo Lopez and redirected to Raygoza, who scored to give the Mounties a 2-0 lead.

Garcia gave Mt. SAC a 3-0 lead in the 25th minute, after he took a cross pass from midfielder Randy De Los Santos, who made a good run down the left flank.

Chaffey broke the shutout with a late goal in the 85th minute, to trail 3-1.

Alain Hernandez and John Samano each played a half in goal for the Mounties, with Samano getting the win. Samano stopped all three shots he faced.

"It has been difficult to be consistent in all areas of the game this year," Sanchez said. "… but this game, with the exception of the conceded goal, was an all-around good team performance."

The Mounties continue conference play on Tuesday October 9 at home against East Los Angeles College.
