Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Takes Down Nation's Number Ranked Team!

(Dallas, TX) The Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Team traveled to Dallas, Texas and defeated United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America) #1 ranked Junior College Division III program and defending National Junior College Athletic Association (Division III) National Champions Richland College, 1-0, in double overtime.  In the battle between two of the greatest community college men's soccer programs in recent history, it was a stalemate at the end of regulation play and into the end of the first overtime.  In the second overtime, Alexis Diaz-Paya scored the "golden goal," on an assist by Eliel Trejo, approximately 6 minutes into the second 10-minute sudden death overtime period.

"I was very proud of our teams effort and hard work for the entire game," replied Mounties Head Coach Juan Sanchez.  "It was a great back and forth game with multiple offensive transitions by both teams.  Both goalkeepers made some amazing saves to take the game into overtime."

This marked the seventh meeting between the two programs.  The Mounties lead the rivaly with a record of 4 wins, one loss and two ties against the Thunderducks.  The historic win for the Mounties (8-1-1, #6 United Soccer Coaches National Ranking) snapped Richlands (9-1 overall record) 17 game winning streak that began on October 8th, 2016.

The Mounties will next travel to Rio Hondo College, to take on the Roadrunners, on Tuesday (10/03) at 4:00 pm.  They will return home on Friday (10/06) to take on crosstown and conference rival Pasadena City College at 6:00 pm.  Prior to the start of the game, there will be a championship banner unveiling ceremony for the 2016 state championship team.
