Glendale tops Mt. SAC, 73-68, in Gene Victor Memorial Basketball Classic Championship

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Basketball team, with a come-from-behind effort from Glendale, lost 73-68, in the Gene Victor Memorial Classic championship game on Saturday (November 12).

The Mounties (1-2) will next try and defend their 2021 title in the annual Skip Robinson Classic at Pasadena City College on Thursday (Nov. 17) against Antelope Valley.

Leading the way in the Glendale game was sophomore guard Noah Laurie (6-10 FGM-A, 2-3 3PM-A) with a team-high 14 points, while sophomore guard Jay Milner (5-10 FGM-A, 2-3 3PM-A) added 12 points.

With 10 points each were sophomore center Matthew Brown (5-8 FGM-A, 3 RB) and freshman guard Mikah Gardner (3-5 FGM-A, 2-4 3PM-A, 2-3 FTM-A, 8 RB, 5 A).

The Mounties, who defeated Grossmont with a score over the century mark (105-99) in their opening game, took a 35-27 first-half lead.

Milner led them with 10 points, which included both of his 3-pointers on the day.

The Mounties were leading early in the second half (17:33), 40-32, when Glendale went on a 16-5 run to take over the lead, 48-45, near the halfway point in the half.

Down by 10, 62-52, later in the half, with 5:53 remaining, Mt. SAC went on an 11-0 run to lead, 63-62.

In a game of runs by each team, the Vaqueros went on one final 11-5 run to end the game.
