(Walnut, CA) Behind 21 hits, Mt. SAC (13-11, 7-2) rolled to a 13-5 South Coast Conference victory over visiting Rio Hondo (8-12, 4-5) on Tuesday at Mazmanian Field.
The Mounties scored early and often, tallying four runs in the first, two in the second, and three more in the third to take a commanding 9-1 lead over the Roadrunners.
Michael Sandoval (3-for-4, 5 RBI, R, 2 2B), Tyus Santa Anna (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 2B, SB), Alex Gonzalez (2-for-3, 3 R), Caleb Eills (3-for-5, RBI, 2 R, 2B), and Kyle Koontz (2-for-4, R, SB) turned in solid offensive performances for Mt. SAC.
Other top offensive performances for the Mounties include Dylan Zavala (2-for-5, RBI, 2R), Albert Luevano (2-for-5, R, 2B), and Christian Heflin (1-for-1, RBI, 2B).
Relief pitcher Tyler Hazlett (2-1) picked up the win for Mt. SAC, throwing four scoreless innings, allowing one hit, and striking out two.
The Mounties will put their four-game win streak on the line in an SCC rematch at Rio Hondo on Thursday, March 21, at 2:30 p.m. The teams will play each other again on Saturday, March 23, on Mazmanian Field at 12 p.m.
