(Walnut) By John M. Sherrard – The Mounties completed their first week of the season with a three-game home series, losing 14-4 to Glendale College at Mazmanian Field Saturday afternoon.

Mt. SAC dropped to 2-3 overall and will host Irvine Valley College Tuesday night at 6pm.

Glendale (2-0) took a 4-0 lead after two innings, but the Mounties evened the score at 4-4 in the sixth inning. However, nine runs by the Vaqueros in the eighth, put the game out of reach.

Brown (sgl, bb, run RBI) singled in the first run of the inning, scoring sophomore centerfielder Nate Alam (El Dorado).

The Mounties, trailing 4-0 in the third, scored a run on an RBI sacrifice fly by sophomore second baseman Dallas Reed (Vista Murrieta HS) in the third inning. Sophomore Michael Smith (Tulsa Memorial HS, Tulsa, OK) singled to open the inning.

Mt. SAC starting pitcher David Valdivia (Claremont HS), who allowed four runs in the first two innings, settled down after that and retired 10 of the next 12 batters.

The freshman didn't allow a hit or a run through the fifth inning. Freshman pitcher Logan Muratalla (San Dimas HS), who allowed the go-ahead run for Glendale in the seventh inning, suffered the loss for the Mounties.
