Mounties Baseball falls in extra Innings to Santa Ana College, 5-4

WALNUT-After trailing for the entire game, the Mounties baseball team tied the game in the ninth, but fell in ten innings to visiting Santa Ana College, 5-4, Saturday night before a large crowd at Mazmanian Field.

Sophomore center fielder Dustin Frailey (Alta Loma HS) singled in pinch runner Aaren Vaughns in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at 4-4, sending the game into extra innings.

Frailey led the way for the Mounties going three for three, scored two runs and stole a base. Sophomore designated hitter Johnny Juarez (Glendora HS) and sophomore first baseman Dylan Lowenstein (Chino Hills HS) each collected two hits. Juarez had two RBIs. Freshman Matthew Majher (Corona HS) also had a pinch hit double.

Freshman left hander Andrew Matus (Don Lugo HS), who pitched the final inning and a third, suffered the loss for the Mounties.

Freshman right hander Josh Avila (San Dimas HS), in relief pitched 2.2 innings, faced 11 batters and allowed only a hit and struck out two in his second appearance of the season.

Only two games remain for Mt. SAC in nonconference action, Monday Feb. 23 at home against Fullerton College and a trip to Riverside City College on Tuesday Feb. 24. South Coast Conference competition begins Tuesday March 3 at L.A. Harbor. Both games start at 6 p.m.
