OCC edges Mt. SAC, 3-2, in Beach Volleyball

(Huntington Beach, CA) After opening the season with two wins at home, the Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball team lost to Orange Coast College, 3-2, in a non-conference match on Friday, February 10 at the Newland St. Courts in Huntington Beach.

"I am extremely proud of our team's performance," Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball coach Danielle Diaz said. "We fought hard until the very end. We were tied 2-2 in sets towards the end of the match and our 5's pair (Savanna Corrales/Capri Salmon) lost in a tight match.

"Unfortunately, Savanna dislocated her shoulder in the middle of the first set, but we're so impressed that she continued to try to get the win for her team, even after getting injured.

"Our 2's (Riley DeGroot/Paige Gutowski) and 4's (Kylie Rhodes/Liz Ortiz) were able to solidify those first two wins in three sets. I'm very pleased at the level of play we are playing at so early in the season and excited to see us continue to improve."

The No. 1's (Allison Whiteman/Bristol Christelman) and No. 3's (JJ Quarrels/Riannel Arevalo) both lost in straight sets.

The Mounties next match is at home against Mt. San Jacinto on Wednesday (February 15).
