(Long Beach, CA) After winning the last two South Coast Conference matches of the regular season, the Mt. SAC Beach Volleyball team received the number 12 seed for the upcoming CCCAA Southern California Team Regionals.

"Great news, we made it," said an excited head coach, Danielle Diaz, on the announcement of the regional selection. "This is a huge accomplishment. I'm so excited and proud that this group of Mt. SAC Women qualified for the regionals. We have continued to show improvement each week and they earned this opportunity to represent the college and continue to play a sport they love."

The team competition will take place on Tuesday (May 3), at Huntington Beach.  Along with the Mounties, San Diego Mesa and Cypress College will compete in the three-team Regional.

Mt. SAC comes into the competition on a five-match winning streak

The winner of the regional will advance to the CCCAA State Championships, May 12-14, to be held at Irvine Valley College.

In addition to the team competition, all five Mountie pairs will also compete in the South Coast Conference Tournament starting Friday (April 29).

Long Beach City College will host the event.

The SCC winners will advance to the So Cal Pairs Regionals to be held on May 6 at El Camino College, followed by the state championship, May 12-13, at Irvine Valley College.

The final two conference wins for the Mounties were over Rio Hondo, 3-2, and 5-0 over Victor Valley on Friday (April 22).

On the day, the 3's (Alicia Patterson/Savanna Corrales), 4's (Riannel Avevalo/Bristol Christelman), and 5's (Victoria Arnold/Kylie Rhodes) were all undefeated with 2-0 records.

"It was a crazy day with 18 mph winds," said Diaz, of the conditions. "It was their first time playing at the beach this season and the first time they encountered heavy winds like this.

"They did a great job of staying composed and having good ball control. We were tied 2-2 in sets against Rio Hondo. For the second week in a row, Patterson and Corrales won the match for us in a tight game (21-18, 22-20).

"We have officially solidified third place in the conference and have finished with the best overall and conference record in program history. I am excited to see what we will be able to accomplish at the pairs conference tournament this upcoming Friday at Long Beach City College."
