Coach Lauren Yao begins her first season assisting the Mounties and Head Coach Rubilena Rojas with the Mounties.
Yao prepped at Cantwell Sacred Heart of Mary High School in Montebello (CA), where she helped lead her team to the 2006 CIF Championship. She was named All-CIF (2006-2008) and also garnered conference Player of the Year honors for the Cardinals.
Yao also played club softball for the California Cruisers, coached by Melvin Sievers, who finished seventh at 18U Gold Nationals in 2008 and 2009.
Collegiately, Yao played for Penn State (2009-2013) from the fall of 2009 and graduated in 2013. During her career with the Nittany Lions, she was named team Defensive Player of the Year and squad MVP in 2012.
Yao's success went beyond the field. She earned All-Big Ten Academic Honors from 2011-2013 and received postgraduate scholarships from the Big Ten and NCAA to pursue a master’s degree in Sports Management at Long Beach State.
Coach Yao’s Thoughts:
The energy and effort our student-athletes put in day-in and day-out is unrivaled. Although we push our players to their limits, they hold each other equally accountable to the highest standards. We hope that this culture and mentality will extend beyond their years at Mt. SAC and carried on throughout their lives and into the career of their choice after college graduation. I’ve enjoyed the journey and watching our student-athletes grow into the best player, scholar, and person they can be has been the most rewarding experience.
