Mt. SAC Athletics Captures 11th Daktronics Cup Championship

(Westlake, OH) For the ninth time in a row, Mt. SAC Athletics Program has captured the prestigious Daktronics Cup (State Association) Championship as the premier community college athletics program among California, Oregon and Washington community colleges.  Presented by the National Alliance of Two-Year Collegiate Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), Mt. SAC has dominated this division, winning 11 of the 18 titles, since its inception during the 2003-2004 season.  Along with the Daktronics Cup, the Mounties took second in the final Learfield Cup Championship standings which honors the nation’s premier overall 2-year collegiate athletics program.

Based on the top 5 men's and top 5 women's team finishes at the state championships, the Mounties scored 180 points (2nd highest score in history).  Twenty-seven points behind were runner-up Riverside City College, with 153 points and Northern California leader Sierra College, took third with 146 points.  The Mounties now lay claim to seven of the top ten highest scores in Daktronics Cup History, including the top five scores.

This season, the Mounties captured state championships in Women’s Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Track & Field, and Wrestling, but also had top-three state championship finishes in Men’s Cross Country (2nd, 19 points), Women's Soccer (3rd, 17.5 points) and in Women's Softball (3rd, 18 points).  Teams contributing to the Mounties NATYCAA Cup point total also included Women's Basketball (14.5 points) and Men's Swimming (11 points).
