Winning Streak Hits Eight; Mountie Baseball Sweeps L.A. Harbor, 12-5

(Wilmington, CA) The Mt. SAC Baseball team is hot and on an eight-game winning streak, with the latest three-game sweep over host L.A. Harbor College in South Coast Conference action on Saturday, April 20. The 12-5 win over the Seahawks on Saturday completed the second consecutive sweep for the Mounties. They swept Rio Hondo last week, scoring 53 runs in three games and 32 runs against L.A. Harbor.

With the win, the Mounties improved to 25-12 overall and 14-7 in the conference, placing third behind leader Cerritos (17-4) and Long Beach City College (15-6).

Third baseman Andrew Walters (1-3, R, HR, Sac. Fly, 4 RBIs) started the scoring spree for the Mounties with a three-run home run in the 9-run first inning. Later in the inning, the sophomore picked up his fourth RBI with a sacrifice fly for the eighth run of the inning. In between Walters' four RBIs, the L.A. Harbor pitcher hit three batters, walked two more, and Mt. SAC had five hits.

Sophomore first baseman Gibby Morales was hit twice in the same inning, and sophomore designated hitter Kaden Moeller (2-5, R, RBI, Dbl.) had a single and a double, with 14 batters coming to the plate.

Mt. SAC added three more runs in the fourth inning on a three-run double by sophomore right fielder Blake Hagerty (2-5, 2 Rs, 3 RBIs, Dbl.), scoring shortstop Andrew Ramirez, left fielder Joel Quemada, and second baseman Joel Gutierrez for the 12-0 lead.

The Seahawks scored four runs in the fifth and one in the ninth.

Picking up his seventh win of the season was Matthew Lorenzano (7-2). The sophomore allowed seven hits, four runs, and struck out nine L.A. Harbor batters.

Mt. SAC concludes the regular season with a three-game series at El Camino on Tuesday, April 23.
