Mountie Baseball wins fifth straight with SCC win over Rio Hondo

(Walnut, CA) Mt. San Antonio College (22-12, 11-7) rolled to its fifth straight victory with a 15-4 South Coast Conference win over visiting Rio Hondo College (9-25, 5-13) on Friday, April 12, sweeping the three-game series.

The Mountie offense got into gear early with seven runs through the first three innings before the Roadrunners scored their first run. A five-run sixth padded Mt. SAC's 8-3 lead, which RHC was unable to overcome.

Andrew Walters had a big game for the Mounties, going 4-for-5 with a triple and home run, scoring four runs, and driving in four more. He also stole a base.

Joey Rossetti (4-5, R, 3 RBI), Gibby Morales (2-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B), Kaden Moeller (2-4, 3 R, 2B, SB), Andres Mitat (2-4, 2 RBI, 2B), Bradyn France (1-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 3B), and Diego Ortiz (2-4, 2 R, RBI) also helped spark the Mt. SAC offense.

Starter Matthew Lorenzano (6-2) threw five innings, allowed three earned runs on two hits, and struck out six to get the win for the Mounties.

With six games to go in the regular season, Mt. SAC will start a three-game SCC series at Los Angeles Harbor College (13-21, 3-15) on Tuesday, April 16, at 2 p.m. Games 2 and 3, respectively, will be in Walnut on Thursday, April 18, at 2 p.m. and in Wilmington on Saturday, April 20, at noon.
