Mounties split in series-concluding doubleheader against Golden West

(Walnut, CA) In a doubleheader that closed out a four-game series, host Mt. SAC (9-11) and Golden West College (8-12) came away with a win each on Friday, May 14.

A nine-run fourth inning blew a 3-0 lead wide open for the Mounties, who tallied 14 hits in the five-inning game.

The hot bats of Travis Hobbensiefken (3-3, R, 2 RBI), Nin Burns II (2-2, 3 R. 3B, 2 RBI), Jacob Moreno (2-2, 2 R, RBI, SB), Travor Caton (2-3, R, 2 2B, RBI), Hector Almaraz (2-3, R), and Cole Jordan (1-3, R, 3 RBI) contributed to Mt. SAC's offensive output.

Starter Manny Casillas (1-1) earned the win for the Mounties, striking out five in four innings, and allowing no runs.

Golden West 9 Mt. SAC 6

For the third time in the series, Golden West rallied in the late innings to steal victory from Mt. SAC. Tied at six through nine innings, the Rustlers scored three in the top of the tenth to take a 9-6 lead, which the Mounties couldn't overcome.

Moreno (2-4, R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI), Cristian Enriquez (1-1, 2B, 2 RBI), Nick Lugo (1-2, RBI), and Jason Flores (1-2, 2B) contributed to Mt. SAC's offensive efforts. Jordan lit up the basepaths with three stolen bases, while teammate Fabian Moran also had one.

Reliever Ryan Silvers (0-2) got the loss for the Mounties, throwing 1.1 innings, and allowing three runs (two earned). Starter Noah Rinehart lasted 4.2 innings, striking out nine, and allowing five runs (four earned).

Mt. SAC travels to Fullerton College (5-15) to start a four-game series on Tuesday, May 18, at 2 p.m. Game 2 will be at Fullerton on Thursday, May 20, also at 2 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, no spectators will be allowed.
