South Coast Conference begins with lose

LOS ANGELES-The Mt. SAC baseball team, after finishing up a 7-5 nonconference schedule, played its first South Coast Conference game Wednesday, falling to host L.A. Harbor, 7-2.

 

Leading the way for Mt. SAC (7-6, 0-1) were sophomores Dustin Frailey (2 for 4, home run, dbl) from Alta Loma HS and Edgar Cabral (2 for 3, dbl) from Knight HS in Palmdale.

 

The Mounties took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after a scoring fly ball to center by Cabral, scoring sophomore designated hitter Johnny Juarez (Glendora HS).

 

However, L.A. Harbor came back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, to lead 4-1, off starter Ethan Etchebarren (La Puente HS). Etchebarren, who is 3-2, suffered the loss.

 

After Harbor added another run in the fifth inning to lead, 5-1, Frailey hit his first home run of the season in the sixth, a solo shot to trail 5-2.

 

L.A. Harbor (9-4, 1-0) added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the 7-2 final score.

 

Sophomore second baseman D.J. Larios (West Covina HS) also added a double for the Mounties.

 

The Mounties continue SCC action Thursday hosting L.A. Harbor at 6p.m. in the second of a three-game series at Mazmanian Field and finish up at L.A. Harbor in noon game on Saturday at L.A. Harbor.
