Mounties keep it rolling..

WHITTIER-For the second game in a row, the Mt. SAC baseball team defeated another hot team, Rio Hondo College, 7-0, in a nonconference game. The Mounties defeated previously unbeaten Riverside City College, which was 10-0, on Monday.

The Roadrunners came into the game with an 8-1 record only to fall to the hot-hitting Mounties, after they pounded out 15 hits, including a three-run home run by sophomore catcher Edgar Cabral (Knight HS, Palmdale). Cabral, who collected four RBIs, was one of three Mounties with three hits in the game. Sophomore centerfielder Dustin Frailey (Alta Loma HS) and freshman shortstop Travis Santiago (Charter Oak HS) were both 3 for 4. Sophomore first baseman Dylan Lowenstein (Chino Hills HS) and sophomore designated hitter Johnny Juarez (Glendora HS) both had two hits apiece.

Pitching a strong five-plus innings of shutout baseball was Michael Starns (San Dimas HS). He scattered seven hits and upped his record to a perfect 3-0. Sophomore right hander Erick Potts (Brea Olinda HS) pitched the final three-plus innings, allowing only one hit. "It's a great day to be a Mountie," Mt. SAC coach Kevin Smith said.

Mt. SAC has now won four in a row and seven of the first nine games. Juarez, Santiago and Cabral all collected an RBI in the three-run third inning and in addition to Cabrals' seventh inning homer, Lowenstein doubled in freshman third baseman Esteban Ortega (Los Altos HS).

Five Mounties collected doubles in the three-hour game – Juarez, Santiago, Ortega, Lowenstein and D. J. Larios (West Covina HS).

Mt. SAC will host Santa Ana under the lights at Mazmanian Field this Saturday at 6 p.m.
