2015 Mt. SAC Relays Kicks Off This Weekend With the LA84 Foundation Youth Days Track and Field Meet

(Walnut, CA)  The world renown Mt. SAC Relays kicks off this weekend with the 30th Annual LA84 Foundation Mt. SAC Relays Youth Days Track and Field Meet.  This years theme is "Fun and Friendship Through Sport."  Over 6,000 elementary and middle school children are expected to compete this Friday (March 20th) and Saturday (March 21st) in Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium, on the campus of Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) in Walnut, CA.  Friday's event will feature the Middle School Division, while Saturday's event will feature the Elementary School Division.  

This incredible program which exposes the youth of Southern California to the Olympic Sport of Track and Field, is the legacy of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games.  Mt. San Antonio College is the first and longest grantee of the LA84 Foundation.  The partnership between Mt. SAC and the LA84 Foundation began in 1985, spanning 30 years and reaching over 400,000 participants.     

As part of the LA84 Foundation Mt. SAC Relays Youth Days Program, over 4,200 boys and girls in grades 3 through 8 experienced free instructional programs in the form of assemblies at their schools, or “learn-by-trying field trips,” at Mt. San Antonio College.  

The 57th Mt. SAC Relays will continue on April 10th with the Community College Division and then conclude the following weekend on April 16th, 17th and 18th with the high schools, university, open,paralympic and elite divisions, as well as the Run Mt. SAC 5k|10K Runk for Hope and the crowd favorite Munchkin Run.  Over 8,000 athletes will converge in Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium for the 57th annual event.  Athletes and teams from throughout world, across the country and locally are expected to attend the "world's largest" and best track and field competition.  

The 2015 event will mark the last Mt. SAC Relays held in Historic Hilmer Lodge Stadium.  This fall, the stadium and surrounding facilities are scheduled for a complete renovation.  The new "state-of-the-art" Hilmer Lodge Stadium and facilities are scheduled to reopen in 2017, with the goal of bidding for and securing the 2020 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials.
