SoCal Regionals: Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country places second

(Long Beach, CA) With 91 points, Mt. San Antonio College placed second behind San Diego Mesa College (68 points) and ahead of third-place Riverside City College (134) at the 2023 Women's Southern California Regional Championships held at El Dorado East Regional Park in Long Beach on Friday, Nov. 3.

Five Mountie runners turned in top-40 times in the field of 158 racers from 27 community colleges. Aariana Amezcua was the top Mt. SAC finisher, completing the five-kilometer course in 17:58.9, good enough for 5th place. Ingrid Tamayo (19th, 18:51.0), Natalyn Membreno (21st, 19:06.2), Shandy Moore (25th, 19:16.4) and Brenna Butler (33rd, 20:05.9) accounted for the Mounties' top finishes.

Mt. SAC will take a couple of weeks off from competition to prepare for the California Community College Athletic Association State Championships, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18, at Woodward Park in Fresno. The Mounties will attempt to claim their third consecutive state title, having taken the top spot at last year's event ahead of SD Mesa and Glendale College, respectively, and in 2021 ahead of Hartnell College and Riverside, respectively.
