(Cerritos, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Water Polo team broke its six-game losing streak in a big fashion with a 20-4 trouncing of host Cerritos in a South Coast Conference game on Wednesday, October 18.

With the win, the Mounties (9-10, 4-1) hold on to second place in the SCC. They conclude the regular season next Wednesday (Oct. 25) at El Camino.

Seven players got into the scoring column for the Mounties, with sophomore driver Jayde Gutierrez and freshman utility Gianna Gomez leading the way with four goals each. Sophomore driver Shauna Mercado added three goals.

Leading 8-4 at the half, the Mounties blew the game open with 10 consecutive goals in the third period while the defense shut down the Falcons without a goal in the second half.

After a close first period, Mt. SAC led 5-3, but it was all Mounties in the final three periods.

Gutierrez led with three of her four goals in the opening period.

All seven goal scorers scored in the third period, a 10-goal outburst for the Mounties.
