By John M. Sherrard

(LONG BEACH) In the final game of the regular season the Mountie women fell to host Long Beach City College, 9-6, Wednesday afternoon in a South Coast Conference game.

They now await the announcement of the seedings for the conference championship tournament next week.

The Mounties finished the SCC in third place with a 6-2 record, while Cerritos (7-1) was second and LBCC the champion at 8-0.

Sophomores Hannah Krolik and Beth Keane led the Mounties with two goals each.

LBCC jumped out to a 4-1 first-period lead, which the Mounties could never recover from the rest of the way.

Mt. SAC freshman attacker Hannah Rueter and Keane tallied twice in the second period to climb within two goals at the half, 5-3. Keane's goal came with just :02 remaining in the half to give Mt. SAC momentum heading into the third period.

However, the Vikings took a quick 6-3 lead in the third at the 6:06 mark, which was followed three and a half minutes later by another Long Beach goal, 7-3, before Krolik scored to trail, 7-4.

Long Beach added two late goals in the period to lead 9-4 heading into the final period.

Krolik and Keane were the only two goals of the fourth period for the final, 9-6 result.

The Mounties will have an alumni game at 6:00 p.m. Friday night at the Marie T. Mills Aquatic Center.
