(Walnut, CA) In perhaps its best streak in ages, the Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team won its sixth consecutive match, but more impressively, it marked the fourth consecutive sweep.

The latest victory came as a 3-0 sweep over visiting East Los Angeles College on Friday, October 13th.

The Mounties secured a dominant win, scoring 25-5, 25-15, and 25-16.

With this win, Mt. SAC improved to 12-7 overall and 6-3 in the South Coast Conference, putting them in a tie for third place with Pasadena City College.

An aggressive Mountie defense limited the Huskies to only 16 kills during the match, with three players reaching double figures in digs.

Leading the way was freshman outside hitter Candace Ceballos (6 kills, 1 assist) with 16 digs, while freshman outside Andrea Brewer contributed 15 digs, and freshman libero Brooke Olivas added 13. Brewer, with 35 attempts, led with 13 kills.

Zyra Green and Leia Campbell added nine and seven kills, respectively.

Sophomore setter Capri Salmon had an exceptional night with 34 assists, seven digs, and four kills.

"In the first round, losing to East L.A. in five sets, we took that personally," said Mt. SAC's fifth-year coach, Samantha Neely, referring to the 3-2 loss in mid-September. "In this match, we wanted to make sure we made a statement, and that we did."

"It was personal for us," added freshman outside hitter Laylah Okoye regarding the victory. "We came back, and we wanted to beat them so bad, and we did it.

"It feels so good, and we're so excited."

The Mounties opened the match with an impressive 15-0 start before ELAC could score a point.

Brewer led with four kills during that stretch, and Salmon's serving kept the Huskies off balance.

"It was really fun," Brewer said. "Just listening to the game plan from our coach, and we've had a lot of hard losses that hurt us, and we're trying to make up for that."

Brewer talked about her teammate, Capri Salmon, and her serving.

"It's crazy (the 15-0 start), and she is a great server; she is the heart of our team," Brewer added. "I'm so happy to have her on the team, and she's a great leader."

After the fast 15-0 start, the Mounties finished off the opening set with a 10-5 run, which culminated with a kill by Green.

Another strong start in the second set saw the Mounties establish a 10-point lead, 17-7, and they maintained the momentum for the win, securing a two-set lead.

Brewer and Green led the set with five and three kills each.

The final set saw ELAC jump out to a quick 2-0 lead, but the Mounties responded with a 12-3 run for a 12-5 lead. The Huskies never got closer than eight points the rest of the way.
