(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team continued their winning streak with a 3-0 sweep over visiting Cerritos College on Wednesday (Oct. 11) in South Coast Conference action. The victory, with set scores of 25-19, 25-19, and 25-16, marked their fifth consecutive win and their sixth win out of the last seven matches for the No. 15th-ranked Mounties. In this stretch, Mt. SAC (11-7, 5-3) has not dropped a set in their last four consecutive wins. Overall, this sweep was their eighth of the season.

Leading the way for the Mounties were freshmen Candace Ceballos (1 A, 2 SA) and Andrea Brewer (2 SA), with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. Both also contributed 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Sophomore setter Capril Salmon (1 SA, 11 D) achieved a perfect kill percentage (1.000 K%) with two kills. Her second one served as the match-winner with a deft dink over the net for the decisive point.

"I think it was just super exciting that I was able to score," said Salmon, referring to the winning point. "We were practicing it a lot, and it was a shot with my left hand. I feel really good right now." Salmon led the match with 27 assists.

In the opening set, with the score tied at 12-12, the Mounties went on a 7-1 run to take the lead at 19-13 and maintained control of the set from there. Ceballos led the way during that stretch with three kills, and Brewer sealed the set with a kill, giving them a 1-0 lead.

Early in the second set, with the score tied at 3-3, the Mounties embarked on another run (12-6) to claim a 15-9 lead and never looked back, securing a 2-0 set lead. The set concluded with a service error by Cerritos (9-4, 4-4).

The third and final set witnessed the Falcons taking their only significant lead in the match at 6-3, but the Mounties kept it close, trailing 9-7, and then went on a 5-0 run to take the lead for good at 12-9. Highlighting the run were kills by Kyra Miller (4 Ks, 2 SA, 1 D), Brewer, and Ceballos. Mt. SAC finished with a 13-7 advantage to secure the match win.

"The whole team has been putting in the work to be the best that we can, and it shows on the court," said freshman Naara Ortega. "I think in the beginning, we were just trying to find our rhythm and see where we all fit in. As time progressed, we came together as a family. I feel good right now. Always end with a win, end with a win."

The Mounties continue SCC action on Friday (Oct. 13) with a home match against East Los Angeles College (17-5, 5-3). Three teams—ELAC, PCC, and Mt. SAC—are all tied for third place with identical 5-3 conference records.
