(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team brought out the brooms for the second consecutive match and ninth time this season, with a 3-0 win over visiting Pasadena City College on Wednesday (October 4) in the South Coast Conference.

With the win, the Mounties improved to 9-7 overall and evened their SCC record at 3-3.

They won in dominating fashion with scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-21.

"It (win) was huge," Mt. SAC coach Samantha Neely said. "Pasadena versus Mt. SAC is a big game and always exciting. It was a little extra motivation. We came in with a game plan and they executed beautifully.

"What I was most proud of in that third set when we started out down, they recovered very quickly. Bring out the brooms."

Leading the way for the Mounties were Andrea Brewer (5 Digs) and Melissa Polich (2 Digs) with eight and seven kills, respectively. Zyra Green (.375 K%, 1 D) added five kills.

Capri Salmon (5 D, 1 K) led with 19 assists. Naara Ortega added six digs.

The first two sets were easy wins for the Mounties, as they built up big early leads.

In the first set, the Mounties jumped out to a 15-9 lead with two consecutive kills by Green. Candace Ceballos (4 Ks, SA, 5 D) added two more kills to stretch the lead to 19-10. Ceballos finished the set with an ace to take the 1-0 lead.

The second set saw the Mounties build up another early lead, 10-1, on a stuff block by Green. Ortega served six consecutive times for that big early lead.

Ceballos served up an ace later in the match for the 23-8 lead and Polich finished off the Lancers in the second set with a kill for the 2-0 set lead.

The third set saw PCC take its first big lead of the match, 5-1. Trailing 7-6, the Mounties, behind four consecutive service winners by Brewer, took a 10-7 lead.

With the set tied, 16-16, the Mounties went on a 6-3 run for the 22-19 lead on two kills by Brewer and a kill by Polich.

Sophomore Leia Campbell finished off the match with a kill.

"We were on a roller coaster in preseason and in conference," Mt. SAC freshman defensive specialist Freda Lei said. "We've been working on staying consistent and I feel like that has showed something on the court.

"We're on an upward trend right now."

Mt. SAC travels to L.A. Harbor Friday (Oct. 6) for an SCC match.
