Mt. SAC Volleyball Suffers 3-2 Defeat to MSJC in Thrilling Five-Set Match

(San Jacinto, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Volleyball team lost a five-set match, 3-2, against host Mt. San Jacinto College on Wednesday (Sept. 6).

The Mounties began the match with a promising 2-0 set lead but could not maintain their momentum, ultimately succumbing to the Eagles in a non-conference clash, leaving their record at 3-4.

The final scores told the tale of a hard-fought battle: 25-14, 25-20, 21-25, 17-25, 11-15.

Leading the way for the Mounties was freshman outside hitter Andrea Brewer (16 D, 1 A) with 14 kills. Joining her in the double-digit kills were sophomore middle blocker Leia Campbell, boasting a .393 kill percentage and 12 kills, and sophomore middle Zyra Green with 19 kills.

Sophomore setter Capri Salmon had a standout night, achieving a career-high 41 assists, paired with 11 digs. Freshman libero Naara Ortega led the team defensively with 20 digs, while freshman Candace Ceballos added 14 digs, along with six kills and four service aces. Sophomore Melissa Polich made her presence felt with four kills and five digs.

The Mounties are looking forward to hosting a tri-tournament on Friday, September 9th, where they will face off against Grossmont and Moorpark. Despite the setback, the team remains determined and ready to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
