(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Volleyball team suffered its first loss at home with a 3-0 sweep by visiting Irvine Valley College on Wednesday night (August 30).

The Lasers (2-0) won by scores of 25-23, 25-22, 25-21.

All three sets were very competitive, with neither team holding more than a four-point advantage throughout the three-set match.

The Mounties (2-2) were led by sophomore middle blocker Zyra Green (.348 K%, 1 SA, 1 D) and freshman outside hitter Andrea Brewer with 10 kills each. Brewer also led the team with 12 digs.

Sophomore setter Capri Salmon led the team with 24 assists and added 7 digs, while freshman outside Candace Ceballos had 9 kills, 2 SA, and 5 digs.

In set number one, IVC took the biggest lead of the match, 13-8, but the Mounties, with eight combined kills by Ceballos (3), Brewer (3), and Green, came back with a 9-4 run to tie the match, 17-17, on a kill by sophomore OH Melissa Polich.

However, IVC answered with five consecutive points to lead, 22-17. A kill by Green stopped the run by the Lasers, but they held on for the 1-0 set lead.

In set No. 2, the Mounties held a 16-14 lead, but Irvine went on an 8-1 run, highlighted by four kills by IVC's Tessa Marocco (19), to lead 22-17.

The Mounties had a brief 5-3 comeback in points but fell short as the Lasers took a 2-0 set lead.

Set number three was a back-and-forth affair, with the biggest lead by Irvine early in the set, 5-2.

Green had two consecutive kills to tie the set, 6-6, but neither team took more than a two-point lead until late in the set as Irvine led 23-20.

Ceballos had a late kill for the Mounties to trail, 23-21, but IVC ended the match with a kill and an attack error by Mt. SAC.

The Mounties will host a three-team tournament on Friday (September 1). They will open with a match against Santa Monica at 10 a.m. and finish the day with a 2:00 p.m. match against San Diego Mesa.
