Mt. SAC Women's Track & Field opens season with first-place finish at SCC Opener

(Torrance, CA) The defending state champion Mt. San Antonio College Women's Track and Field team opened its 2024 campaign by taking first at the South Coast Conference Opener held at El Camino College on Saturday, Feb. 10. The Mounties posted 150.5 points to finish ahead of Cerritos College and Long Beach City College, which tallied 148 and 129 points, respectively.

On the day, Mt. SAC athletes placed first in two events, second in six, and third in five.

First-place finishes for the Mounties included Katherine Porter (high jump) and Amaliyah Smith (60 hurdles).

Aariana Amezcua (1500 meters), Shandy Moore (3000 meters), Sophia Perez (pole vault), Porter (long jump), Malani Johnson (javelin), and the distance medley relay team (Yasmeen Delgado, Laurin Williams, Kahlai Cruser, Isabella Flores) took second place in their events for Mt. SAC.

Third-place Mountie performances came from Leila Caluya (javelin), Astrid Teran (pole vault), Natlyn Membreno (3000 meters), Alyssah Johnson (400 meters), and the 4x400 relay team (Leilani Centeno, Alyssah Johnson, Emely Gonzalez, Amaliyah Smith).

Mt. SAC will next compete in the Golden Eagle Invitational at Concordia University in Irvine on Saturday, Feb. 17.
