Mounties Shine at the 2015 CCCAA So Cal Track and Field Preliminaries

(Norwalk, CA) The Mt. SAC Track and Field Program had a very strong showing at the 2015 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), Southern California Championship Preliminaries which were held this past Saturday (May 2nd) at Cerritos College.  The Mounties are looking to add to their 20 CCCAA State Championship Titles (11 women's titles, 9 men's titles).  Mt. SAC will send 47 student-athletes to next weekends SoCal Finals (May 9th) to compete in 59 individual events and four relays.

The Mt. SAC Men were led by a strong showings in the 100 meters and pole vault.  In the Pole Vault, the Mounties qualified 6 men including 2015 community college national and state leader, Reed Scale (17'00" 3/4).  In the 100 meters, the three qualifying Mounties, Cravon Gillespie (10.67), Armani McNeal (10.81) and Isaiah Kennedy (10.91) posted the three fastest times on the day and each of them won their respective heat.

The Mt. SAC Women were led by defending 100M and 200M State Champion Sarah Dunmore who easily captured the 100M, 200M and 4X100M Relay and also qualified to compete in the 4X400M Relay.  Along with Dunmore, Deirdre Mercado, led all javelin throwers and all qualified in the pole vault.  

Fastest/best marks of the day were posted by Deirdre Mercado (W Javelin), Megan Hasseler (W Pole Vault), Reed Scale (M Pole Vault), Giovanni Hernandez (M Pole Vault), Men's 4X100M Relay, Women's 4X100M Relay, Sarah Dunmore (100M and 200M), Cravon Gillespie (100M) and Men's 4X400M Relay.

Four SoCal Finals have already been held up to this point.  Cade Lindsay captured the Men's Decathlon Title earlier in the year.  The 10,000M Finals were held on the preliminaries day.  In the women's 10,000M, Nichelle Jackson placed fourth, while in the men's 10,000M, Daniel Harrigan-Cota scored by placing 7 overall.  All three of these student-athletes have qualified for the 2015 CCCAA State Championships which will be held on May 15th and 16th up at the College of San Mateo (San Mateo, CA).
