Mt. SAC Wrestling Captures Their Fourth Consecutive SoCal Dual Team Wrestling Championship

(Norwalk, CA)  For the fourth consecutive year, the Mt. SAC Wrestling Team captured the South Dual Team Championship and will vie for a California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Dual Team Wrestling State Championship.  The Mounties will host a familiar foe in Fresno City College, who captured the CCCAA Northern California Title, at a date and time to be announced (tentatively scheduled for the third weekend of November).

“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our team,” replies Head Coach David Rivera.  “We had to make some tough decisions on who to wrestle and at what weight class, but it paid off.  We look forward to facing Fresno City College for the State Dual Team Championship for the 3rd time.”

The Mounties have faced the Rams twice in the past three CCCAA State Dual Team Championships, but have come out on the short end of both contests.  Two seasons ago, the Mounties narrowly defeated Sacramento City College (19-19, Mounties won on tiebreaker criteria), to capture their first ever CCCAA Dual Team Wrestling State Championship.

The Mounties are currently ranked #2 in the state behind Fresno City College.  The Mounties have a number of wrestlers ranked top ten individually, including:

  • George Taylor = #1 at 133 lbs.
  • Vernon Willis = #1 at 197 lbs.
  • Kolton Martin = #2 at 184 lbs.
  • Terrill Sidner = #2 at 149 lbs.
  • Nathan Aragon = #4 at 184 lbs.
  • Stevenon Blake = #4 at 174 lbs.
  • Mario Lopez = #4 at 141 lbs.
  • Dean Parker = #4 at 133 lbs.
  • Ryan Padilla = #5 at 197 lbs.
  • Hector Vargas = #5 at 165 lbs.
  • Andrew Cruz = #6 at 285 lbs.

  • Jon Atherton = #7 at 125 lbs.
  • Josh Rugama = #7 at 157 lbs.
  • Reed South = #8 at 165 lbs.

The Mounties will host Palomar, at home, this Wednesday, October 21st in Gym 3, at 7:00 pm.
