Winning streak hits 15 as the Mounties overwhelm Trade Tech, 98-49

(Walnut, CA) With the longest winning streak in four years, the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team overwhelmed the visiting L.A. Trade-Tech Beavers, with a 98-49 win in a South Coast Conference North game on Friday (Feb. 11).

Mt. SAC had a 19-game winning streak in the 2016-17 season and went on to win its eighth CCCAA state title.

The Mounties, which moved up to No. 3 in the CCCSIA state poll (Feb. 8), won their 15th consecutive game and have one game remaining before the playoffs begin March 1.

Mt. SAC (22-3, 7-0), sitting atop the SCC North in first place, will play its final home game of the regular season on Friday (Feb. 18), as they host East Los Angeles College.

Leading the Mounties in the win over the Beavers was sophomore forward Allyah Cartajena, (10-18 FGM-A, 2-2 FTM-A, 1 Stl., 1 Blk.) with her second 22-point game of the season. She also had a season-high 14 (7-7) rebounds.

Three other Mounties were in double figures in scoring – Mina Guevara-Goss (4-9 FGM-A, 3-6 3PM-A, 4-5 FTM-A, 7 A, 2 Stls., 15 Pts), Destiny Marsh (4-5 FGM-A, 4-6 FTM-A, 12 Pts), and Briana Lizardi (4-11 FGM-A, 8 RB, 1 A, 1 Stl., 10 Pts.)

As a team, the Mounties scored 44 bench points.

Mt. SAC had a 40-24 halftime lead and exploded for a total of 58 points in the third and fourth quarters, just missing the century mark in scoring.
