Mountie Women Basketball fall in Ventura Tourney Semi’s to Canyons, 79-74

(Ventura, CA) The Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team, beginning a stretch of three tournaments in the next three weeks, lost in the semifinals of the 23rd Annual Ventura College Tournament of Champions to College of the Canyons, 79-74, Friday (Nov. 19).

With the loss, the Mounties will play in the third-place game against host Ventura.

Mt. SAC was led by sophomore guard Savanna Norfleet (5 RB, 5 Steals) with 12 points and sophomore forward Skylarr Little (3-5 FGM-A, 5-8 FTM-A, 5 RB) had 11.

Three Mounties had eight points each – Allyah Cartajena (4-6 FGM-A, 3 RB), Briana Lizardi (2-5 FGM-A, 2-3 3Pt-A, 2-2 FTM-A, 3 RB), and Jamya Mickens (3-7 FGM-A, 1-1 3Pt-A, 1-1 FTM-A).

Nikki Thompson (3-4 FGM-A, 1-2 FTM-A, 5 RB) added seven points.

The Mounties held a slim, 33-31, halftime lead and stretched it to six points, 58-52 after three quarters.

But, a big fourth quarter by the Cougars with 27 points sent the Mounties to defeat.
