Mt. SAC Women Basketball Falls to L.A. Trade Tech. 84-66

(Walnut, CA) Los Angeles Trade Tech moved into a first-place tie in the South Coast Conference North with a convincing, 84-66 win over the Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team Friday (2/8).

With the loss, the Mounties fell to third place in conference with a 4-2 record and 18-7 overall.

The Mounties, who had won five of the last six games, fell behind by 10 points, 19-9 after the opening quarter and never recovered.

Trade Tech outscored the Mounties again in the second quarter, 17-11 to lead by 16 at the break, 36-20.

Trailing by 19 points entering the final quarter, 57-38, the Mounties staged a small comeback and closed to within 12 points, 75-63 with 2:22 left on a jump shot by Jade Hughes.

The Beavers then countered with a 9-3 run to end the game for the 18-point win.

Four Mounties scored in double figures in the game – Natalia Shpegel (9 for 16 FGM, 3-3 FTM, 2 Stls., 2 Blks, 21 Pts.), Kiara Stiger (5-7 FGM, 8 RB, 1 Stl., 10 Pts.), Aujanae Mayes (4-8 FTM, 4 RB, 8 Assts., 3 Stls., 10 Pts.) and Hughes (21 Pts.).

Cheyenne Givens and Cheyenne McKinnie led Trade Tech with 38 and 26 points, respectively.

Mt. SAC will host Chaffey next Wednesday (2/13) in a SCC North game.
