(Ventura, CA) The number one ranked Mt. SAC Women's Basketball Team, defeated number two ranked Ventura College (VC) to capturee the VC Tournament of Champions on Sunday Night, 47-46. The Mounties rolled through the first two rounds of the tournament, beating Diablo Valley 65-46 and then College of the Canyons, 70-51, in the semi-final.

In the championship game, Mt. SAC led 45-39, with 2:41 left to play, but timely buckets by the Pirates and missed free throws by the Mounties kept it close.  The Pirates had a chance take the lead and win, until a crucial turnover with a half a second left, sealed the win for the Mounties.  Lashanique Youngblood led the Mounties with 10 points and 15 rebounds, earning all-tournament honors, while teammate John'ea Thompson was named tournament MVP.

"Those girls (VC) played hard, hit shots and they battled," described Mounties Head Coach, Brian Crichlow.  "That's why the score was what it was, and why they had us scrambling around at the end trying to hold on."

The Mounties (7-0) travel to the Sequoias Tournament on December 4th and face Porterville in the first round.
