Griego, Espinoza homers help lift Mountie Softball to SCC win over L.A. Harbor

(Walnut, CA) Host Mt. San Antonio College (26-7, 14-2) got back on the winning track with a 12-4 South Coast Conference win over Los Angeles Harbor College (11-23, 3-13) on Thursday, April 11.

Sparked by a Katie Griego (1-4, 2 R. 2 RBI) homer, the Mounties jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first, only to see the Seahawks pull within two with three runs in the top of the third. Fueled by a three-run homer by Janis Espinoza (3-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 SB), Mt. SAC responded with six runs in the bottom of the same inning to increase the lead that LAHC was unable to overcome.

Other top offensive performances for the Mounties came from Amanda Esquivel (2-2, R, 2 RBI, 2B), Mercedes Alba (3-4, R, RBI, 2B), Morgan Kneubuhler (2-3, 2 R), and Audrey White (2-3, R, RBI, 2B).

Starting Pitcher, Alyssa Rubalcava (2.2 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 H) secured her 10th win for Mt. SAC, supported by an outstanding relief performance from Dallas Garcia (2.1 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 H). Rubalcava pitched 2.2 innings, allowing 3 runs, while Garcia's stellar pitching helped maintain the team's streak at 18 wins out of the last 20 games (one game postponed). Garcia took the mound for 2.1 innings, giving up just one run on one hit, and striking out one batter.

The Mounties sit in second place in the SCC standings behind Long Beach City College (25-7, 13-1) and will host El Camino College (22-10, 12-4) in a conference matchup on Friday, April 12, at 1 p.m. Mt. SAC has defeated the Warriors twice this season: 3-1 on March 1 and 16-0 on March 22.
