Mountie Softball takes two from San Diego Mesa to run win streak to eight

(Walnut, CA) Host Mt. San Antonio College (16-6) extended its winning streak to eight with a doubleheader sweep of San Diego Mesa College (12-7) on Friday, March 15.

In the first game, starting pitcher Dallas Garcia remained unbeaten on the season at 5-0 with a complete-game performance that included two runs (both earned) on one hit and seven strikeouts for the Mounties.

Janis Espinoza (2-3, 3 R, RBI, 3 SB), Alyssa Rubalcava (1-1, 2 R, RBI), Mercedes Alba (2-3, R, 2 RBI), Amanda Esquivel (1-1, 2 R, RBI) played key roles in the Mt. SAC offense. Morgan Knubuhler (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI) also homered for the Mounties as Audrey White (1-2, R, RBI) stole two bases.

To conclude the day, Mt. SAC benefited from another complete-game pitching performance, this time by Rubalcava who threw six innings of one-hit, shutout softball while striking out one.

Knubuhler (3-3, R, 2 RBI) homered again for the Mounties, her second of the day and season. Other top offensive outings came from Allie Kirkpatrick (3-3, 2 R, RBI, 2B), Espinoza (2-4, R), Katie Griego (1-3, R, 2B, SB), and White (1-2, R, RBI, 2B).

Mt. SAC will resume its South Coast Conference schedule on Tuesday, March 19, at Cerritos College (12-6, 4-3) at 3 p.m.
