Walk-off single in bottom of ninth lifts Mounties to non-conference win over Citrus

(Cypress, CA) Scoreless at the end of seven innings, Mt. SAC (22-3) and Citrus (14-14) settled their non-conference game at Cypress College in extra innings. Eventually, the Mounties came away with a 2-1 win in nine innings.

Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the eighth, Mt. SAC's Quinn De Avila (2-for-3, RBI) singled to center to drive Erika Eklund home to tie the score.

The Mounties held the Owls scoreless in the top of the ninth to set up a dramatic finish. With runners on first and second with one out, Jessika Trujillo (1-for-4, RBI) singled to center in the bottom of the inning to score Ally Longtree for the game-winner.

Starter Briana Wheeler (13-1) pitched a three-hit complete game and struck out 11 to earn the win for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC will travel to Costa Mesa for a non-conference tilt with Orange Coast (15-11) on Monday, April 1, at 3 p.m. The Mounties will then resume their South Coast Conference schedule on Tuesday, April 2, at Pasadena City (18-9, 10-5) at 2:30 p.m. Mt. SAC—undefeated in SCC play with a record of 14-0—handed Pasadena a 2-0 loss on Feb. 28.
