(Walnut, CA) – By John M. Sherrard – The Mt. SAC softball team finished up the regular season home schedule with a double bang Friday.

A double header sweep and a perfect game in the night cap by freshman pitcher Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings (Chino HS) sent the Mounties to their 35th win of the season with one game remaining.

In the afternoon game the Mounties defeated Glendale College, 7-2, and in the night game Orange Coast College fell victim to the arm of Kennedy-Cummings, 12-0, in a five-inning game due to the mercy rule.

Kennedy-Cummings (13-2) struck out eight of the fifteen OCC batters and freshman right fielder Alyssa Rasso (Corona HS) was a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate.

In the two games Mt. SAC (34-5) freshman shortstop Kayla Sok (Glendora HS) was 4 for 5, had two doubles, two triples, four RBIs, scored three runs and added to her state-leading stolen bases with two.

Sok, with one game remaining in the regular season, leads Jessica Daniel of Santiago Canyon by two stolen bases, 38-36. Daniels also has one game remaining.

In the circle, freshman pitcher Racqual Espinoza (Golden Valley HS) and Kennedy-Cummings are No. 2 and No. 3 in the state with a 0.90 and 0.94 ERA respectively.

In the 7-2 victory over Glendale the Mounties led 2-0 in the fourth inning and busted the game open with five runs for a 7-0 advantage.

The highlight of the inning was a two-run triple by Sok, scoring sophomore third baseman P.J. Leon (Upland HS) and freshman dp Victoria Ayala (La Serna HS) for the fifth and sixth runs of the game for the Mounties.

In the game sophomore first baseman Aimee Rodriguez  (John Burroughs HS) was 2 for 2, with a double and a run scored.

Espinoza allowed only two hits in her four innings of work and won her tenth game of the season against only one loss.

The Mounties scored four runs in the second, three in the third and five in the fourth inning, which was highlighted by a two run home run by freshman Taylor Jaurique (Wilson HH HS). That round tripper was the fourth of the season for Jaurique.

Mt. SAC's (17-3 in the SCC) final regular season game is at L.A. Harbor on Tuesday for the final conference game. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
