Softball powers way past El Camino-Compton Center, 32-0

(Walnut) – By John M. Sherrard – The Mt. SAC softball team got back on the winning track in a big way Tuesday afternoon, hammering four home runs, including two grand slams, to defeat visiting El Camino-Compton Center, 32-0, in a South Coast Conference game.

Mt. SAC (22-3, 11-2) was led by a pair of grand slams by freshman catcher Taylor Jaurique (Wilson HS) and sophomore second baseman Natalie Winokur (El Camino Real HS).

Sophomore third baseman Priscilla Leon (Upland HS) was a perfect 3 for 3, with three runs scored, including a two-run home run, while freshman first baseman Victoria Ayala (La Serna HS) had a game-high six RBIs, also with a two-run home run in the 13-run first inning.

In the circle, three Mountie pitchers combined for a no hitter, with freshman pitcher Jessica Olvera (John F. Kennedy HS) picking up her sixth win of the season. Freshman pitchers Racqual Espinoza (Golden Valley HS) and Tiffany Kennedy-Cummings (Chino HS) finished up the game for Olvera. Espinoza was also a perfect 3 for 3 at the plate with three RBIs.

Adding to the offensive onslaught was freshman shortstop Kayla Sok (3 for 3, 3 runs, 3 RBIs), freshman centerfielder Bree Maikai (3 for 3, 3 runs, 2 RBIs) and sophomore shortstop Anise Avalos (Claremont HS) with two RBIs.

Mt. SAC, which is ranked fourth in the Southern California Region coaches (CCCFCA) poll, scored nine runs in each of the second and third innings in the shortened five-inning game.
