Former Softball Star Nichole Whaley Passes Away

(Walnut, CA) It is with deep regret that Mt. SAC Athletics Department announces the passing of former Student-Athlete, Nichole Whaley, after a brief battle with Melanoma.  Nichole was an outstanding catcher on the 2007 Mt. SAC Women’s Softball State Championship Team, where she earned numerous post season accolades.

Originally from Martin Luther King High School in Riverside, she attended Frank Phillips College (Borger, TX), before transferring to Mt. SAC.  After Mt. SAC, she transferred on to the University of Wisconsin, where she played for the Badgers during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

“Nichole was a beautiful person, with an amazing spirit! She was the perfect example of a student-athlete.  She worked hard both, on the field and in the classroom and she truly wanted the best for all of her teammates,” replied former teammate and current Mt. SAC Academic Counselor, Molly Mercer.  “She had an infectious smile and a positive spirit that was contagious! The softball community lost a beautiful soul!”

Services for Nichole will be held at the Grove Community Church (19900 Community Drive, Riverside, CA 92508 - click here to be directed to Google Maps), this Saturday, November 29th at 10:00 am.
