Mt. SAC men perform well at RCC Open

(Riverside, CA) The 2019 Riverside City College Open saw several Mt. SAC men's track and field athletes perform well in their respective events on Friday, March 15.

Salvador Capetillo took first place in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:40.44, while teammate Nicholas Dorsett finished second clocking in at 8:55.64. Capetillo also captured second place in the 1,500-meter run timing in at 4:03.20 as fellow Mountie Isaiah Wilson finished third a fraction of a second later at 4:03.44.

Aaron Mahlow turned in a time of 56.52 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, good enough for first place. Nathan Gordon crossed the finish line in the same event at 57.30 seconds, placing third.

In the 4x400-meter relay, Mt. SAC's team of Mahlow, Gregory Hennes, Robert Taft, and Phillip Rocha finished third with a time of 3:25.15. Another Mountie relay team (Bryce Butler, Adan Castellanos, Chris Weiland, Wilson) captured second place in the 4x800-meter relay, clocking in at 7:58.70.

The shuttle hurdle relay (110m) team of Justin Minor, Isaiah Mitchell, Mahlow, and Leroy Williams IV finished in second place with a time of 1:01.60.

First-place finishes by Nathaniel Carranza (4.72 meters) in the pole vault, Travion Phillips (7.37 meters) in the long jump, and Mitchell (13.20 meters) in the triple jump highlighted the Mounties' field event portion of the meet.

Mt. SAC pole vaulters Calvin Oury, Daniel Starkey, and Ryan Lopez finished tied for second in the event with vaults of 4.26 meters. Quentin White's 1.75-meter leap placed him third in the high jump.

Next up for the Mounties is the UC Riverside Multis on Thursday and Friday, March 21-22, at UC Riverside.
