Double-overtime win against Irvine Valley sends Mt. SAC Men's Soccer to next round of SoCal Regionals

(Walnut, CA) It took two extra periods for No. 8 seed and host Mt. San Antonio College (8-5-9) to claim a 1-0 victory over No. 9 Irvine Valley College (12-4-6) in the opening round of the 3C2A Southern California Regionals on Saturday, Nov. 18.

After 101 minutes of scoreless play, Frank Gonzalez scored what proved to be the decisive goal for the Mounties on an unassisted effort in the 102nd minute.

Daniel Ramirez played all 120 minutes in goal for Mt. SAC, making seven saves.

With the win, the Mounties advance to the second round where they'll face South Coast Conference rival and No. 1 seed El Camino College (19-1-0) in Torrance on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 4 p.m. This will be the third time the teams have met this season. The Warriors won both of the previous games by identical scores of 3-0, once on Oct. 3 and the other for the SCC title on Nov. 10.

Riding an 18-game winning streak, El Camino is also ranked No. 2 in the state and is coming off a 6-0 opening-round win over No. 16 Bakersfield College (7-10-5).
