Mt. SAC Men’s Basketball runs winning streak to seven; Defeats LACC, 80-61

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Basketball team ran its latest winning streak to seven, with an 80-61 victory over visiting Los Angeles City College on Friday, February 9 in a South Coast Conference North game.

With the win, the Mounties improved to 22-2 overall and remain perfect in the SCC North at 5-0, as they have won 15 of the last 16 games.

Thirteen of the 15 roster players scored for the Mounties, with four in double figures.

Leading the way for the Mounties was sophomore guard Nick Hopkins (4-4 FGM-A, 5-7 FTM-A, 3 A, 1 Stl.) with 13 points, while sophomore guard Elijah Cirilo (5-6 FGM-A, 1-2 3PM-A, 1 Stl.) and freshman guard Jerimiyah Smith (5-6 FGM-A, 1-2 3PM-A, 4 RB) had 11 points each. Sophomore guard Mikah Gardner (4-7 FGM-A, 2-5 3 PM-A) added 10 points.

CJ Fisher, Ernest Love, and Dante Victor all scored seven points for the Mt. SAC.

At the end of the first half of play, the Mounties more than doubled their lead, 43-20, and were led by Hopkins and Gardner with eight points each.

The Cubs slightly outscored Mt. SAC in the second half, 41-37, but the Mounties won going away as they built up a game-high 26-point lead at the 8:14 mark on a layup by Smith.

Mt. SAC continues SCC North action Wednesday (Feb. 14) at home against East Los Angeles College.
