(Walnut, CA) A season-high 21 points by Mt. SAC freshman guard Jerimiyah Smith led the Mounties to a convincing 74-53 victory in the South Coast Conference crossover against visiting L.A. Harbor on Wednesday, January 3.

Also scoring in double figures for Mt. SAC (12-1) were sophomore guards Nick Hopkins (3-6 FGM-A, 1-1 3PM-A, 7-9 FTM-A) and CJ Fisher (5-10 FGM-A, 1-4 3PM-A, 2-2 FTM-A) with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Elijah Cirilo (4-7 FGM-A, 1-4 3PM-A, 2-2 FTM-A) added nine points for the Mounties.

Hopkins and Smith led the Mounties to a 35-20 halftime advantage, each contributing 10 points in the first half.

"Every game, we try to come out with high energy and play team ball," Smith said. "We aim to do our best on defense and execute on offense, and that's what we did (Wednesday). Once we use all of our pieces (players) to our full capability, there is no stopping us."

Smith electrified the crowd with a spin move and slam dunk in the second half, extending the Mounties' lead to 21 points at 53-32.

"I was going to do a sweeping move over his (LA Harbor defender) head and try to dunk it, but he reached in, so I made a spin move and went up for a dunk and I got it," added Smith.

Smith, along with the rest of the Mt. SAC "bench mob," provided depth to a strong team this season.

The dunk was followed by a 3-pointer from sophomore guard Dante Victor, extending the Mounties' lead to their largest of the game at 24 points (56-32).

Mt. SAC outscored the Seahawks 39-33 in the second half.

"Everybody contributes, which takes the heat off Nick (Hopkins), and that's great," said Mt. SAC coach Michael Fenison. "I appreciate their effort and energy coming off the bench."

Fenison, in his third year leading the Mounties, emphasized the importance of each conference (crossover) win, stating, "We got one on Friday (at Compton) and got to get that one next."
