Mt. SAC Men’s Basketball suffers third consecutive loss, 75-52, to Chaffey

(Walnut, CA) The Mt. SAC Men's Basketball team suffered its third consecutive non-conference loss on Friday, December 2 to Chaffey, 75-52.

Sophomore guard Jay Milner (4-7 FGM-A, 2-4 3PM-A, 1-1 FTM-A, 4 RB, 1 Stl.) led the Mounties (4-5), who had only one player in double figures, with 11 points.

Sophomore center Matthew Brown (3-4 FGM-A, 1-1 3PM-A, 2-4 FTM-A, 5 RB) added nine points, while freshman guard Micah Myricks (5-7 FTM-A, 2 RB, 2 A, 1 Stl.) and sophomore guard Arturo Angeles (3-7 FGM-A, 3 RB, 1 A, 1 Stl.) scored seven points each.

With the Mounties tied, 12-12, with seven minutes elapsed in the opening half, Chaffey went on a 10-1 run for the 22-13 lead, before freshman guard Mikah Gardner (2 RB, 1 A, 1 Stl.) hit a 3-pointer with 8:37 left to trail, 22-16.

After a four-minute scoring drought by the Mounties, freshman guard Nick Hopkins (6 RB, 1 Stl.) scored a layup to trail, 28-18.

In the last four minutes of the half, the Panthers scored nine points, but Milner and Hopkins (at the buzzer) hit 3-pointers to trail at the half, 37-24.

The second half saw Chaffey extend its lead to 20 points with five minutes gone and never looked back for the win.

Mt. SAC continues non-conference action with a game at Irvine Valley College on Friday, December 9.
