(Los Angeles, CA) Despite a late rally, the Mt. SAC Men's Basketball Team fell to host L.A. Trade Tech, 65-60, in South Coast Conference (SCC) North Division opening play on Wednesday (1/23).

Despite four Mounties (8-10, 0-1) scoring in double figures, the Beavers (15-3, 2-0), ranked 15th in the CCCAA State rankings, held on for the five-point victory.

Trailing by nine points, 48-39, with 12:28 left in the game, the Mounties went on a 12-1 run to take a 51-49 lead, with 8:33 remaining.

The Beavers briefly regained the lead, 55-53, with 6:47 left in the game, but Mt. SAC freshman guard Akinola Branco (12 points) sank a 3-pointer to give the Mounties their last lead, 56-55, 20 seconds later.

Sophomore forward Israel Mansker (6 for 11 FGM, 3-5 FTM, 11 RB, 1 Asst., 1 Stl., 15 points) scored on a dunk for the Mounties to trail by one point, 61-60, with 3:24 left. Unfortunately, that was last point for the Mounties.  Trade Tech scored on a basket and two free throws for the five-point victory.

Sophomore guard Cyree Dunnell (5-14 FGM, 6-6 FT, 4 RB) scored a team-high 17 point coming off the bench, while Daniel DeJoya (3-7 FGM, 1-3 3PM, 3-5 FTM, 10 RB, 6 Assts., 1 Stl) added 10 points for the Mounties.

Mark Chin led Trade Tech with 25 points.

The Mounties will continue SCC North action at Chaffey Friday (1/25). Game time is 5:00 pm.
