Mounties Football dominates Orange Coast in NCC game to stay undefeated

(Walnut, CA) Mt. San Antonio College (8-0, 5-0) closed out its regular season home schedule with a convincing 72-13 National Central Conference victory over Orange Coast College (0-8, 0-5) on Saturday, Oct. 28. Off to their best start since 2012, the Mounties are presently ranked No. 3 in the Junior College Athletic Bureau and California Community College Sports Information Association state polls.

Samuel Green led the Mt. SAC running game with 98 yards on three carries and two touchdowns. Isaiah Dickerson (48 yards, seven carries), De'von Hemsley (35 yards, three carries, one TD), Devon Miles (33 yards, four carries, one TD) and Jaden Allen (33 yards, four carries) also helped spark the Mounties' rushing attack. In addition, Felix Igiri (three yards, two carries) scored two touchdowns for the home team.

Starting quarterback Alex Flores threw for 109 yards on 9-of-10 passing with one touchdown for the Mounties and backup Sean Jastrab added 88 yards on 10-of-13 passing.

Nicolas Ceballos (four catches, 52 yards), De'shon Thompson (three catches, 33 yards), Tremont Brewer (three catches, 20 yards), Nicholas Floyd (two catches, 20 yards) and Miles (two catches, 20 yards) were the top receivers for Mt. SAC. Jordan Williams also scored a touchdown for the Mounties, a 19-yard pass play from Flores late in the first quarter.

Following the Pirates' first score of the game in the third quarter, Miles returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

Harold Peters (seven tackles, five solo), Juruan Hardin (five tackles, three solo), Kaylon Bradley (four tackles, two solo), Alo Pulu-Suliafu (four tackles, one solo) and Deonne Gill (four tackles, four solo) led the Mt. SAC defense which held OCC to 272 yards of total offense.

The Mounties also tallied four quarterback sacks, two by Hardin, one by Reggie Johnson (three tackles, two solo) and half each by Pulu-Suliafu and Kanalu Catrett (three tackles, one solo).

Tyler Jones had two interceptions on the night, returning one 54 yards for a touchdown. Arron Chaney also returned an interception 39 yards for a touchdown.

Mt. SAC compiled 474 yards of total offense, 218 through the air and 256 on the ground.

The Mounties will hit the road for an NCC matchup at Long Beach City College (4-4, 3-2) on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m.  The Vikings are coming off a 24-3 loss to Golden West College (7-1, 5-0) who Mt. SAC will face on Saturday, Nov. 11. This will be the first time the Mounties have played Long Beach since 2019 when they came away with a 36-20 win.
