Mt. SAC Football picks up convincing win at Ventura

(Ventura, CA) After host Ventura College (1-1) tied the game at 10 with 5:01 to play in the first quarter, Mt. San Antonio College (2-0) scored 41 unanswered points en route to a resounding 65-24 non-conference win on Saturday, Sept. 9.

The Mounties compiled 662 yards of total offense, led by top performances from quarterback Alex Flores (27-36, 290 yards, two TDs) running backs Samuel Green (18 carries, 124 yards, one TD) and Devon Miles (six carries, 107 yards, one TD), and wide receiver Dedrek Taylor-Akins (six catches, 92 yards, one TD).

Nicholas Floyd (seven carries, 73 yards), Isaiah Dickerson (seven carries, 17 yards, 2 TDs), and Thaj Stevens-Nguyen (four carries, 14 yards) also scored touchdowns on the ground for Mt. SAC. In addition to Taylor-Akins, De'shon Thompson (two catches, 27 yards) was also on the receiving end of a Flores touchdown pass.

Kicker Diego Esqueda tacked on three field goals for the Mounties: 36, 29, and 33 yards.

On defense, top Mt. SAC players included Kaylon Bradley (seven tackles, three solo), Juan Salas (six tackles, two solo), and Tyler Jones (five tackles, four solo).

The Mounties will wrap up their non-conference schedule at home against Allan Hancock College (1-1) on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 6 p.m. The Mounties defeated the Bulldogs last season, 48-7. AHC is coming off a 25-20 loss to East Los Angeles College.
