Giovanni Lanaro, the head coach of the Mt. San Antonio men's track and field team, has been named the South Coast Conference Coach of the Year for the 2022-2023 season in all sports. This honor was awarded during a conference athletic director's meeting held via Zoom.

Lanaro achieved a unique feat by becoming the second coach in conference history to win both the men's and women's Coach of the Year awards. In the 2022-2023 season, he was also named the Coach of the Year for women's cross country and track and field.

Lanaro directed the Mounties to victory in the 3C2A team championship with seven individual event champions and saw Mt. SAC secure its 30th men's track and field conference championship, winning an impressive 14 events. Jonathan Zavala, a distance runner from Mt. SAC, was named the state track MVP.
