Mountie Women Defeat L.A. Trade Tech, 68-63; Regain State CCCSIA No. 1 Ranking in Jan. 23 Poll

(Los Angeles, Ca.) The recently named No. 1 team in the state, Mt. SAC Women's Basketball team, proved its worth again as they defeated L.A. Trade Tech, 68-63, to remain atop the South Coast Conference North standings Friday night.

With the win the Mounties upped their overall record to 23-1 and a perfect 4-0 in conference.

Freshman guard Dominique McLaughlin (6-12 FG, 5-8 FGM, 5-8 FT, 9 RB, 6 assists) led all scorers with 22 points, while two other Mounties had 12 each – Caira Benton (4-4 FT, 11 RB, 2 steals, blk) and Jade Hughes (6-7 FG, 7 RB).

Mt. SAC sophomore forward Kali Jones (4 RB, 4 blks) and sophomore Allyah George (3-5 FG, 5 RB,2 steals) each has six points.

The Mounties, who recently vaulted to the top spot in the state after defeating former No. 1 East Los Angeles College, held a slim three-point lead, 34-31, after the first half. The second half was more of the same with a tight 34-32 Mountie advantage.

Mt. SAC will travel to new SCC conference member Chaffey College on Wednesday. Game time is 7:00 pm.
