Mountie Beach Volleyball defeats El Camino in SCC match

(Torrance, CA) El Camino College (9-6, 3-2) and Mt. San Antonio College entered their match on Friday, March 22, tied for second place in the South Coast Conference standings at 3-1 behind Long Beach City College (11-3, 5-0). After a tightly contested match, the Mounties took sole possession of second with a 3-2 win over the host Warriors to improve to 15-2 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

ECC took a 1-0 lead when Sophia Ortiz and Erica Griffiths swept Mt. SAC's Capri Salmon and Elizabeth Ortiz, 21-14, 21-17. The Mounties' Candace Ceballos and Angelina Griego tied the match, 1-1, by sweeping the Warriors' Bianca Atienza-Perez and Perla Lopez, 21-18, 21-16.

After splitting the first two sets, 14-21 and 21-19, Mt. SAC's Sam Parks and Kyra Miller found themselves down 10-5 in the third and decisive set against ECC's Adelynn Abrams and Yasmin Watanabe. From there, the pair went on a 10-1 run to claim the set, 15-11, giving the Mounties a 2-1 match lead.

Zyra Green and Andrea Brewer claimed the decisive match point for Mt. SAC with a 23-21, 15-21, 15-10 win over the Warriors' Ryan D'Angelo and Bridget Dorr.

The Mounties return to action at home on Friday, March 27, with a pair of SCC matches. First, they'll face Rio Hondo College (11-5, 2-3) at 10 a.m. then Cerritos College (7-8, 1-4) at noon. Mt. SAC defeated the Roadrunners, 3-2, in their first matchup this season on March 8, and also bested the Falcons, 4-1, on March 15.
