Bob Jastrab enters his nineteenth season (2024) as Head Football Coach of the Mounties.  Jastrab is one of the most respected and successful coaches in the community college ranks.  In 2014, his tenth season, he became the first football coach in California Community College History to capture 100 wins in 10 seasons or less.  He has been named by his peers Conference Coach of the Year, 7 times, as well as being named State (2), Regional (5) and the American Football Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 2010.  Since taking over as Head Coach in 2005 he has lead the Mounties to;

  • 2 Community College National Championships
  • 3 California State Championships
  • 6 Southern California Championships
  • 12 Conference Championships
  • 13 Bowl Game Championships
  • an incredible record of 167 wins and 44 losses (.791 winning percentage - 12/01/23)
  • Transfered hundreds of student/athletes to the 4 year level

2017 was another strong year for the Mounties who finished with an overall record of 8-3. In the regular season finale, the Mounties defeated #2 ranked Riverside City College to capture a share of the conference championship and advance to Jastrab's 12th consecutive bowl appearance.   

In 2016, the Mounties finshed with another strong 8-3 season and Jastrab's 10th conference championship.  The team narrowly missing the playoffs, but captured their 11th consecutive bowl game championship with a, 27-3, win over College of the Canyons.

2015 brought the Mounties their 10th consecutive bowl game championship and 9th conference title.  The Mounties defeated Golden West, 29-27, in the Patriotic Bowl.  

In 2014, the program captured it's 4th California Community College Athletic Association State Championship beating San Francisco City College, 27-17.  The team also captured its 9th consecutive bowl game, defeating Fullerton and captured their sixth Southern California Championship, beating Riverside, 35-14.  Coach Jastrab captured his 100th career win against L.A. Harbor on November 1st.  

In 2013, the program captured its eighth consecutive bowl championship, defeating Ventura College, 42-14, in the Golden State Bowl.  The team finished with another outstanding record of 9 wins and 2 losses.  More importantly, over 30 players transferred to 4-year University Institutions to further their athletic and academic careers.   

2012, was another great season for Jastrab, who lead the Mounties to an undefeated regular season capturing the conference title and a bowl game championship for the seventh consecutive time.  The team advanced to their 6th consecutive So Cal Championship, where they fell short to eventual state champion, Bakersfield College. 

In 2011, Jastrab led the team to the State Championships for an amazing fifth consecutive year. He also led the Mounties to their 6th consecutive Bowl and Conference Championship, as well as their 5th consecutive Southern California Championship. The team finished the season ranked #2 in the state. Jastrab was named the Conference (5th consecutive) and State Region IV Coach of the Year.

In 2010, Jastrab lead the team to an undefeated record of 13-0 and a second consecutive state and national championship.  It also marked the fourth straight year that the Mounties appeared in the California State Championship Game. Jastrab received the highest honor bestowed upon a community college football coach, being named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), National Community College Coach of the Year. He was also named State Coach of the Year as well as Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.

After serving 11 years as an Assistant Coach at Mt. San Antonio College, Jastrab was named Head Coach in 2005.  He has held a variety of positions at Mt. SAC, including Associate Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator and Offensive/Defensive Line Coach. Jastrab began his football coaching career in 1989 at Mt. SAC.  In 1993, he accepted a graduate assistant position at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).  During his tenure with the Rebels, UNLV captured the 1994 Las Vegas Bowl with a win over Central Michigan.  After leaving Las Vegas, he became the offensive coordinator at Damascus High School and helped propel them to the 1996 Maryland 3A-State Championship.  He returned to Mt. SAC in 1997 and helped the Mounties to an undefeated season, capturing the National and State Community College Football Championships.

Jastrab prepped at Edgewood High School in West Covina where he excelled in Football, Basketball and Baseball.  An outstanding prep lineman, Jastrab was named to the Los Angeles Time All-Valley Team in 1980. He played two seasons at Mt. SAC (82-83) as a defensive lineman, earning Mountie of the Year Honors as well as Community College All-American status.  He received a scholarship to the University of Miami, Florida (84-85) and was part of a Fiesta and Sugar Bowl team.  As a player, Jastrab was exposed to some exceptionally gifted coaches and their successful coaching philosophies including reknown coaches Jimmy Johnson, Howard Schnellenberger, Gary Stevens, Butch Davis, Bill Fisk and Mal Eaton.

Jastrab is a graduate of the University of Miami (FL) where he received his B.B.A. in Accounting.  He earned his Master’s Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

He has been a full-time Professor of Physical Education at Mt. SAC since 2000 and has also served in a number of other positions, including Assistant Athletics Director and Head Badminton Coach. 

Jastrab is an avid golfer and loves to travel.  He lives in La Verne with his lovely wife Barbara and their two sons, Joshua and Sean, both outstanding prep student-athletes at Bonita High School.
